Reflection - 70
The prayer of the consecrated people is powerful and
effective. A consecrated life without prayer is futile and utter chaos. Why the
prayer of the seminarian is important is something that is to be taken into
account because we are the future of the church. The holy gospel of St. Mathew
18:18 is something so crucial which goes like this “whatever you bind on earth
will be bound in heaven and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in
heaven”. The privilege of binding the sins of the people of god is given to the
priest. So we are something that of great importance though sometimes we may
not feel so.
One of the terrible disasters that can ever appear
in the life of the consecrated people is the tendency to go away from the
presence of God. Consecrated life is entirely different from that of the people
who are outside of the ecclesiastical structure. But these kinds of
contradictions give meaning to our life. Our unfailing dedication to these
contradictions makes our life authentic and holy. The thing that is to be
primarily understood is that each and every action as well as the dispositions
of the present seminarian determines the future of the church in general and
the future of the people of God in particular. Fulton J. Sheen says priest is not
his own. Priest is primarily for the people but people are not our own and
nobody is our own and nothing is our own but Jesus is in the hand of the priest
and that is what his license is.
