Reflection18
Dear friends,
Today our holy mother church put before us a beautiful
gospel passage for our reflection containing two parables- the parable of the
mustard seed and the parable of the yeast. When we consider these parables we can see that
they are something related to nature. So we can confidently say that Jesus was
a lover of nature and he tried to bring examples from nature in his teachings.
This idea also reflects in his other teachings such as the parable of the
sewer, the parable of the weeds among
the wheat and so on. This shows his attachment and concern for nature. The new
encyclical letter of Pope Francis “Laudato si” deals with the same – care for
our common home nature... He starts the encyclical quoting the words of St.Francis
of Assisi “praise is to you, my lord through your sister, mother earth, who
sustains and governs us and who produces varies fruits with colored flowers and
herbs”. Pope also makes an attempt to reveal the reason for taking St.Francis
of Assisi as his guide. He says “when I was elected as bishop of Rome I believe
that St. Francis is the example par excellence of care for the vulnerable and
of an integral ecology lived out joyfully and authentically. He is the patron
saint of all who study and work in the area of ecology and he is also much
loved by non Christians. He was particularly concerned for god’s creation and
outcast” Today our common home earth faces a lot of difficulties such as loss
of bio diversity, pollution, climate change etc... due to the intervention of
human beings- the crown of god’s creations. So dear friends let us examine
ourselves how can I stand aside from taking the part of pollution? How can I
give a helping hand to nature? Friends let us try to live the creed that we
profess every day because we profess that “I believe in god the father almighty
creator of heaven and earth” thereby we are the sons of our common father and
the brothers of his all other creations.
