Bible reflection (mk-11:12-14,20-26)
Today we have an important passage to meditate upon from st.
marks gospel 11:14-14, and20-26.From this passage I would like to pick up two
things for our meditation. The first part verses 12-14 we read Jesus curses the
fig tree.Jesus saw in the distance fig tree covered with full of leaves, so he
went to see if he could find any figs on it. But when he came to it, he found
only leaves, because it was not the right time for the figs.Jesus cursed the
tree and immediately it withered away. When I read this passage I wonder why
lord curses a fig tree though it has not caused any harm to anyone. But the specialty
of the fig tree is that fruits come first than the leaves. In this case there
were only beautiful leaves with no fruits i.e. the tree was futile. Therefore
it was the right time to teach his disciples a lesson of hypocrisy .hypocrisy
means concealment of the true character. Hide our own true character. Like the
tree we may also flourish externally with our show off deeds and actions but
internally we are futile, we are blind. Externally we may look good but
internally we posses hatred, jelousy, immorality, filthy, indecent actions, envious
which cause harm to our fellobeings.our lives are like the white washed tomb,
which is well decorated outside but full of dirtiness inside. So God wants our
inner mind, inner heart, inner thought to be clean and tidy.
Second, verses 20-26 speaks about true faith.
To be with the lord and to preach the lord we have to be concealed with the
true faith. Faith is the ability to trust. We can do all things in Christ Jesus
if we have faith. There may be stumbling blocks or difficulties preventing us
to be faithful. No matter what our problem is, do not nurse it, do not curse it,
do not rehearse it, just give it to god and have faith in him. Every problem is
an opportunity to trust god. Living by faith, today Jesus needs our faith and
trust in him.
